What is Employee NPS (eNPS)?

Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) measures how likely your employees are to recommend your company as a place to work.

It's based on a single question: "On a scale of 0-10, how likely are you to recommend this company as a place to work?"

Responses are grouped into three categories:

  • Promoters (9-10): Loyal employees who actively recommend your company
  • Passives (7-8): Satisfied but not enthusiastic employees
  • Detractors (0-6): Unhappy employees who may spread negative word-of-mouth

Your eNPS is calculated by subtracting the percentage of Detractors from the percentage of Promoters, giving you a score between -100 and +100.

What's a Good eNPS Score?

Any score above 0 means you have more promoters than detractors—that's a positive sign.

A score between 10-30 is considered good. Above 30 is great. Above 50 is excellent and puts you among the best employers.

A negative score indicates more detractors than promoters—a signal that employee experience needs attention.

How to Run an eNPS Survey

The beauty of eNPS is its simplicity—it's just one question. But getting honest responses requires anonymity.

Employees are more likely to give candid feedback when they know their individual responses can't be traced back to them.

You can run an eNPS survey quickly in Slack using anonymous polls. Post a simple 0-10 scale poll in your #general channel and get responses in minutes—no complex survey tools needed.

How to Improve Your eNPS

Knowing your score is just the first step. The real value comes from understanding why employees feel the way they do.

Follow up your eNPS survey with open-ended questions. Create channels for ongoing feedback through anonymous questions and suggestion boxes.

When employees see their feedback leads to real changes, trust grows—and so does your eNPS.

Run eNPS surveys regularly (quarterly is common) to track trends over time and measure the impact of your initiatives.
